Instructional Design

Enhance Your Learning

Instructional design is the process by which learning products and experiences are designed, developed, and delivered. These learning products include online courses, instructional manuals, video tutorials and learning simulations.

As the training field has undergone such considerable change in the past few years, different methodologies and techniques are needed to cater to Corporations, SME’s, Governments and Education Facilities.

At the heart of our instructional design is expertise in Neuroscience, Cognition, Messaging, Visualisation and Storytelling, which combines to create world class learning designed for all types of environments.

Learning should not just be about certification, it should be about making a difference in the real world by understanding how the content can actually be used.

Collaborative On-the-Job Learning

The aim for any enterprise is to effectively integrate learning with their business. Changes to mindset, behaviors and habits have to be reinforced over time. Moving away from the traditional ways of training typically begins with the evolution of the various roles and skill sets of the trainer or facilitator.

Cognitive Learning empowers trainers to operate as both ‘Subject Matter Experts’ to publish knowledge as a digital intervention, and trainers to apply innovation and creativity in learner engagement, ensuring measurable ROI.

The engagement in a cognitively build course allows collaborative learning – to observe what everyone has learnt and their opinions. Through digitalisation, practice and on-the-job reinforcement, learning is made possible.

Spaced Learning

An Unforgettable Learning Journey

Contrary to what we may believe, long term recall is rarely achieved in a one-time event. Spaced Learning is the key to learning retention – and it involves understanding memory.

Every time we learn something new, it gets filed under ‘temporary’. If we re-visit that information, and really understand how to apply and reinforce it, then that information gets moved to ‘long-term memory’. However, if we fail to re-visit, apply and reinforce the knowledge we’ve learned, then after a while we tend to clear it from the temporary ‘cabinet’ altogether, to make room for new learnings.

All learners have both a learning curve and a forgetting curve, so at Arcanum, we specialise in Spaced Learning which helps people learn quickly and forget slowly, by focusing on a cognitive process of ‘repeating or repetition. The best type of learning is when it is delivered in smaller ‘chunks’ over time, which is why we deliver pre, during and post workshop modules.

Knowledge Transfer Through Experience

Experiential learning theory differs from cognitive and behavioral theories in that cognitive theories emphasise the role of mental processes during learning, while behavioral theories ignore the possible role of subjective experience in the learning process.

The experiential methodology takes a more holistic approach and emphasises how experiences environmental factors, and emotions, influence the learning process.

The Learning Circle concept  is ideally suited to Experiential learning because of the large amount of emphasis placed on On-The-Job or In-the-Field activities where people can learn from their peers with collaborative activities.

Rapid Learning

PowerPoint® as the Base for Learning

Rapid Learning refers to the methodology of creating learning quickly, as well as providing ‘bite sized chunks’ of learning, often called ‘Micro Learning’.

With our skills in Presentational Development, we conceive, develop and create slides in PowerPoint, record audio and video narration over the slides, and use specialised software to add quizzes, surveys and other interactions and collaboration activities between slides. The whole package is then converted to HTML5 and sent to a learning management system or website where it can be easily accessed by learners.

Simply taking PowerPoint slides and delivering them over Zoom or MS Teams is not very effective. However, converting to HTML5 and delivering with interactions is very effective in engaging audiences and saving time.

Effective Learning in Informative Chunks

Microstyle Learning is a proprietary learning approach. It is typically delivered on mobile devices, for education on a specific topic, and consists of multiple 15 minute Bitesized Chunks. A good example of where is can be used is an update on a particular process or topic, where running a full learning course would not be cost effective.

We incorporate our unique messaging system, Microstyle Messaging, into Microstyle Learning ensuring learners can learn more easily in less time for efficiency and effectiveness.

Text, Images, Illustrations, Audio, Video, Quizzes, Interactions, Surveys, Learning Actions, Predictive Techniques and Gamification are all included in the Microstyle Learning solutions we create for our clients.,
